FSMA: Preventive Controls for Animal Food (PCQI Certification)

FDA-recognized Course Curriculum by FSPCA

Our one-of-a-kind 21 CFR 507 training allows the individual to gain a complete understanding of the new requirements and how they apply to your organization. The Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA) designed this 2.5 day (20 hours) workshop in collaboration with the FDA. It is presently the ONLY FDA-recognized curriculum for the Current Good Manufacturing Practice and Risk-based Preventive Controls for Animal Food requirements. This course is taught by a certified FSPCA Lead Instructor who also has many years of experience as a food safety professional working within this sector.  Successful completion meets the FDA requirements for a Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) in accordance with the FSMA rule defined in 21 CFR 507.  A PCQI is a professional who can manage a Food Safety Plan at a facility in accordance with FSMA requirements. Participants receive an official “FSPCA Preventive Controls Qualified Individual for Food for Animals” certificate upon successful completion.

The Food Safety Modernization Act, or FSMA, is completely changing the way we think about the manufacture, transportation, distribution and storage of pet food and animal feed. Many professionals working with animal food (including ingredients, mixed animal feed, pet food, or those who supply the feed) and pet food industries, through either primary products or by-products, are concerned about the changes this rule may require in their day-to-day operations. This course explains these requirements, as well as, provides application examples and decision-making logics. Training materials include: FSPCA comprehensive manual, key terms, concepts, and reference materials to aid in communication tasks.

Who Must Comply with the Hazard Analysis and Preventive Controls Rule?

Facilities required to register with FDA under section 415 of the Food, Drug, & Cosmetic Act and/or Registration of Food Facilities (21 CFR part 1, subpart H; the section 415 registration regulations) must comply if they manufacture, process, pack or hold food intended for animals. Compliance with the cGMP portion of this rule became mandatory for large firms in September 2016. Compliance dates are staggered with cGMP compliance required first, then the Preventive Controls compliance. Other firms may have additional time to comply based on the number of employees and dollar amount of revenue generated from sales of animal food.

Who Will Benefit

Quality managers, Food Safety managers, HACCP managers, food safety HACCP team leaders and team members; compliance personnel, quality assurance managers, sanitation managers, regulatory managers, and any associates responsible for specific GFSI compliance and FSMA preventive controls for animal food manufacture including both primary products or by-products. Even experienced food safety managers can learn something new with this course.
