Food Safety Tips from the CDC.

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, we at D.L. Newslow & Associates, Inc. want to express our gratitude to all of our clients and partners. We hope you have a wonderful time with your loved ones and enjoy the delicious food that this season brings. To help you have a safe and healthy celebration, we also want to share some of the CDC food safety guidelines that you can follow. Here are some tips to make sure your turkey and stuffing are cooked properly, and to prevent any foodborne illnesses:

  • Thaw your turkey in the refrigerator, in a sink of cold water that is changed every 30 minutes, or in the microwave. Never thaw your turkey by leaving it out on the counter.

  • Use a food thermometer to check that your turkey has reached a safe internal temperature of 165°F. Check the temperature in the thickest part of the breast, the innermost part of the thigh, and the innermost part of the wing.

  • Cook stuffing separately from the turkey in a casserole dish, or stuff it into the turkey just before cooking. Make sure the stuffing also reaches a safe minimum internal temperature of 165°F.

  • Refrigerate leftovers within two hours of serving. Use shallow containers to allow rapid cooling. Reheat leftovers to at least 165°F before eating.

By following these simple steps, you can safely gobble gobble this holiday and avoid any unwanted surprises. Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at D.L. Newslow & Associates, Inc.!
